The Dual 120mm 12V Powered Canopy Vent — "The Big Spinner" — is a twin-fan filtered powered exhaust vent for 4x4 canopies, caravans, camper trailers, vans, trailers and fixed structures. Two 120 mm fans in one housing, with variable speed, for spaces the single can't keep up with.

This is an exhaust vent. It works best with an intake elsewhere, so air has somewhere to come from — see The Original. A powered exhaust drawing against a passive intake gives you a genuine push-pull cross-flow rather than just stirring the air.

How it works

The assembly is in two parts. The fan housing mounts inside and carries both 120 mm fans, the filtration and the control electronics. The outer housing sits on the outside of the panel and stays flush and low-profile.

The fans draw air out and push it through the outer housing. Because its louvres face downward, water running down the panel and dust thrown up off the road are far less likely to be driven into the openings than they would be with forward or side-facing holes.

Control is a three-way switch, with a second switch inside the housing that selects how the temperature mode behaves:

• Always on — both fans run constantly for maximum airflow
• Temperature activated, variable speed — the adjustable thermostat brings the fans in as things heat up, and the hotter it gets the faster they spin
• Fixed 30°C — the fans trigger at a preset 30°C, independent of the adjustable setting

Variable speed matters more than it sounds. A fan that only switches on and off runs flat out or not at all; one that scales with temperature draws less current on a mild day and still has headroom when everything is baking.

Fitting

Two 105–108 mm round cutouts and twelve 5 mm bolt holes, so either a 105 mm or a 108 mm hole saw will do. Mount the fan housing inside and the outer housing outside, with the louvres facing downward — fitting the outer housing the wrong way up will let water in.

Power is plug and play through the DC jack. As with every electrical component in a canopy or caravan, fuse it. A full installation and temperature adjustment guide is included in the box.
